GSE promotes peace and equitable development by connecting young people from around the world through innovative workshops and service learning exchanges. Our students are young ambassadors who practice grassroots international relations by identifying local issues, collaborating with their global peers, and implementing projects that create positive change within the community.
The
program integrates three basic elements: 1) classroom and after-school inquiry-based workshops that enhance standard high school curriculum by examining issues of leadership, sustainable development and agriculture, globalization, and strategic planning for local and international projects. The GSE curriculum provides theoretical models for solving social and environmental problems, and then requires students to identify a need in their own community and develop a plan to address it. 2) developing, organizing, and implementing local projects that meet specific, student-identified community needs, and planning for exchange visits to and from partner communities – including fundraising to make exchange travel accessible to all students who want to participate. 3) reciprocal exchange visits between participating communities, working in partnership on sustainable community development projects to address pressing environmental, educational, and food security issues.
