Job Summary

The Director of Sales and Marketing is responsible for leading recruitment of GSE exchange students, including strategy and execution, and leads the development of all marketing communications. The Director of Marketing and Communications will work closely with the Executive Director and other GSE staff on overall strategy for the organization, and the leadership team will rely on the Director of Sales and Marketing for expertise on matters relating to exchange travel recruitment and organizational communications strategy.

This position’s roles vary seasonally. From August through December, the Director of Sales and Marketing will manage a seasonal “sales team” for annual exchange student recruitment. During the rest of the year, the Director of Sales and Marketing will design the communications systems and materials that support the recruitment process, and will carry out other aspects of organizational marketing.

TheDirector of Sales and Marketing will be the staff lead of an advisory committee comprised of experts in marketing and sales who volunteer their time to serve as mentors and guide strategy decisions. The Director of Sales and Marketing may recruit and supervise interns with relevant interests and expertise.

Ultimately, the Director of Sales and Marketing is charged with equipping the organization’s team with the right strategy, support, training, and tools to enable successful exchange recruitment and overall marketing strategy.

Responsibilities

Exchange recruitment team management – 35%

  • Travel to GSE’s Latin American locations to learn about GSE’s exchange programs
  • Interview and hire Exchange Coordinators for the recruitment team
  • Supervise U.S. Program Coordinators and Latin American Exchange Coordinators for all exchange
  • recruitment

Exchange recruitment strategy and materials – 20%

  • Develop overall exchange recruitment strategy in collaboration with staff and advisory committee
  • Conduct market research to guide GSE’s exchange travel pricing and scholarship systems
  • Ensure that all staff have online and printed materials to support their exchange recruitment efforts
  • In coordination with the Operations Director, review and update all exchange-related communications in GSE’s automated communications systems

Organizational marketing and communications – 30%

  •  Oversee design of all communications materials, including website, email, print, social media, and video
  •  Make strategic decisions about marketing and brand representation of GSE
  •  Work closely with the Development Director on voice and content for fundraising efforts
  •  Build relationships with local media, making strategic use of news/media coverage
  •  Manage the curation and distribution of quarterly newsletter
  •  Lead the development of website content, copy, images, brand consistency
  •  Manage social media strategy and execution

Staff training – 15%

  •  Design and lead training for seasonal exchange recruitment staff members
  •  Provide ongoing training sessions for all staff around organizational branding and communication

Requirements:

  •  Relevant degree and a minimum of 5 years experience
  •  Experience developing marketing strategy and/or sales team management is strongly preferred
  •  Superior persuasive oral, written, and visual communication skills
  •  Exemplary organizational skills, including ability to handle multiple tasks, set and meet deadlines, and
  • prioritize assignments
  •  Team player skilled in collaborating with volunteers and other staff members
  •  Background and/or interest in environmental and/or educational issues preferred
  •  Experience engaging with high school and university students preferred
